SMD Outdoor LED Screens
“Surface-Mount Device”or SMD utilize red, green, and blue diodes mounted on top of each other in a single package. These clusters of single LED’s are able to display high LED resolution full colour output.

DIP or PID Outdoor LED Screens
“Dual In-line Package” or DIP are a combination of 3 LED’s to create RGB and hence full colour images. The combination of these three colours – red, green and blue allows LED screens to create millions of colours, including white. Fantastic for outdoor LED resolution displays.

Outdoor LED screen billboards- Explained
Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) actually emit light rather than reflect. Hence many times brighter than other technologies currently on the market.
Lets start with outdoor LED screen resolution. The smaller the space between LED’s, the higher the definition & quality of the image. Your eyes can detect pixelation at certain viewing distances.
Obviously there is more detail with a higher image quality. Ultimately there must be an acceptable level of definition for the final output. Remember this is not a TV in your living room. It is meant to communicate the advertised message clearly and efficiently outdoors.
Consider the unit brightness. For outdoor use, at least 2,000 cd/m² is required for most situations. If you are concerned about direct sunlight on the screen the higher-brightness types of up to 5,000 cd/m² cope even better.
The final factor is cost, not just the price. Finding a balance between cost & LED definition will give you the best ROI.
Consider an example: You want to install LED advertising screens around the perimeter of a Soccer field. Who will be viewing the screens?
Will it be viewed on a live TV broadcast? If so a P16 quality screen would display on TV acceptably. Yet P20 would be a much more affordable option and allow high impact viewing from those in the stadium.
So weighing these factors will let you make the best decision.
